Impressive FM22 Stefano Pioli AC Milan Tactic | 4-2-3-1
Stefano Pioli was appointed as the head coach at AC Milan on the 9th of October 2019, on a deal to the end of the 2019/2020 season. Ahead of 2020/2021, Milan extended his contract for extra two years. AC Milan did the extension because of his impressive results. With this very impressive era of the Milan boss, I chose to replicate FM22 Stefano Pioli AC Milan tactic, which I will detail below.
Pioli adopted a 4-3-3 tactic during the 1st half of the 2019/2020 Serie A season, but he had to make a switch to a 4-2-3-1 tactic due to the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in January 2020. He made this switch in order to accommodate for the Swedish ageing yet prolific striker. This 4-2-3-1 tactic became the Italian boss main tactical weapon till today, with the tactic Pioli secured a return to the UCL for Milan at the end of the 20/21 season – that was the first AC Milan qualified for the competition in seven seasons.

In the current 2021/2022 season, Pioli made some adjustments to this tactic which is very impressive to watch. In the previous season, AC Milan were more direct with their approach. But in this season, they use more shorter passing approach – plus they are very narrow in the opponents’ half of the pitch. These adjustments have been positive, as Milan are among the top contenders for this season Serie A trophy.
