FM23 Stefano Pioli Back-3 Tactic | 20 Games Unbeaten | FM23 AC Milan

In this post, I will be looking into an FM23 tactical replica of Stefano Pioli’s real-life tactic (Stefano Pioli back-3 tactic) with AC Milan in the current 2022/2023. At the start of this season, AC Milan played with a classic 4-2-3-1 tactic which I discussed in FM22, but since their two main right-backs, Florenzi and Calabria got injured, Pioli couldn’t trust Sergino Dest enough to step in for them. Therefore, he alters this classic 4-2-31 to an asymmetric one, where they are using a back-3 system that is mostly made up of Tomori, Gabbia and Kalulu with Kalulu being a wide centre back.

In some matches, Pioli used asymmetric 4-3-2-1 tactics but not as often as the asymmetric 4-2-3-1 tactic. To be flank, this Pioli new tactic is what really influenced my asymmetric custom gegenpress tactic that I created a while ago.
