FM23 Vertical Tiki-Taka Tactic | FM23 Classic 4-4-2 Diamond with Montpellier

Here, I will focus on another type of tiki-taka which is FM23 vertical tiki-taka under my FM23 Custom Tactical Series. The difference between a vertical tiki-taka and a tiki-taka is the former makes use of counterattacks while the latter doesn’t. Vertical tiki-taka is the more dominant tiki-taka in today’s football, as most teams like to take advantage of their opponents’ vulnerability on the break by hitting counterattacks.

FM23 defines Vertical tiki-taka as “a quick passing style of possession and movement, with a narrower, more direct approach than the standard tiki-taka”. Just like my other custom tactics I have done so far, this tactic is equally of two versions:

• Classic 4-4-2 Diamond version

• Asymmetric 4-1-4-1 version

The first version, 4-4-2 diamond will be detailed in this article while the next article will be based on the second version. The team that I used to carry out this tactic was Montpellier Herault SC and it gave me a satisfying result as my team is 3^rd on the table of the French Ligue 1 after 19 matches.
