FM23 4-3-3 Fluid Counterattack Tactic | FM23 Borussia M’gladbach

In this post, I will continue my FM23 Custom Tactics series and this time, I will be looking into a custom FM23 4-3-3 fluid counterattack tactic. Fluid counterattack is the most popular counter-attacking tactic in today’s football as most teams now prefer to involve shorter passes rather than kicking the ball long to find a dangerously positioned teammate in the opponent’s half – which are direct counterattacks.

FM23 defined the tactic “as the tactic that looks to draw the opposition forward to leave them vulnerable on the break. Players will be fluid on the counter, trying to combine with each other and carry the ball with clear intent”. This custom fluid counterattack is of two versions, which are:

• Classic 4-3-3 version

• Asymmetric 4-1-4-1 version

This post is based on the classic 4-3-3 version while the asymmetric will be discussed in the next post. While creating the classic 4-3-3 version, I first try it with Schalke 04 but it didn’t yield good results before I switch to Borussia Monchengladbach. This proves that this tactic can’t work with some teams but the teams I think can be successful with this tactic are Real Madrid, Milan, PSG, ATL Madrid, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.
