Jesse Marsch showed us the last couple of seasons that Red Bull Salzburg is here to compete with Europe’s elite. Following the tactical principles that characterize the Red Bull teams, they were able to go toe to toe with the likes of Liverpool, Napoli, Bayern Munich and Atlético de Madrid.

Structural flexibility, high intense ball-oriented pressing and fast-vertical transitions are some of the key principles that Jesse follows with his Salzburg side. The American coach has said time and time again that the formations in which his teams are set up depend exclusively on the opponent, but that they always follow the same principles. In this article, we are going to be recreating and focusing more on his most used formation, the 4-2-2-2.

    1. Yes, you are supposed to use the positive mentality for every match. Jesse Marsch prefers to bring the game themselves regardless of who the opponent is.
